Q. History of the Muslims adhering to Salafi Dawah

Asalaamu alaikum. I am a new member and very impressed with your site and the dawah you provide. Insha Allah, I would like to be able to fully answer to some of the questions I hear from others about the Salafi Dawah. One of the most common things I hear is that the adherents of Salafi Dawah are murderers and throughout history have always tried to kill off all other Muslim "sects", and that in general the adherents of Salafi Dawah are a dangerous cult that is outside the fold of true Islam. I know that these are inaccurate statements, but because I am not sure where they are coming from (historically), I have a difficult time refuting them fully. Unfortunately, my own brother is one that has heard such horrid stories of this kind that he considers anything I send that explains the Salafi Dawah to be propaganda and he cannot move past all the so-called scholars and imams that are telling him different. This is hard for me, but insha Allah I would like to be able to give him (and others) correct information. Can you possibly recommend a good book or books that deal with these issues and tell the history of the so-called "Wahabis" etc. to explain where such stories come from and how they can be answered to, insha Allah? JazakAllah.

Asalaamu alaikum.

A.  What we call ourselves is irrelevant when our actions contradict the principles which we claim to cling to. Not everyone who claims a way of life is actually living it as such.

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi,

The following is an excerpt from our article about Dawat-us-Salafiyyah at http://muttaqun.com/salafiyyah.html

"A muslim who adheres to the Dawat-us-Salafiyyah cannot be any of the following, which are basically groups of people adhering to deviation as a principle foundation in belief.

This is not propoganda, but a true statement, that a Muslim upon the correct minhaj and aqeedah, cannot be one who acts as the khawaarij. Therefore, those who CALL THEMSELVES Muslims upon the salafi dawah and act as khawaarij, are LIARS and are NOT upon the salafi dawah.

We recommend reading "Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab: His Life & Mission" which is available at http://muttaqun.com/store/p419.html.

There is also a lecture by Sheikh Hilabi, Sheikh Qoosi & Sheikh Hilali, entitled, "Debating Present Day Methodologies," and can be found at http://muttaqun.com/store/c506.html, which thoroughly addresses the Khawaarij division from a dawat-us-salafiyyah perspective.

As salaamu alaikum
